Valtellina is the best part of 2 hrs due north of Franciacorta, tucked up close to the Swiss border. It’s Italy’s only East - West valley, Tirano and Sondrio are the two most important towns. Apart from wine, the area has exceptional walking and mountain biking trails… you road bikers can spin a little further down the road to the foot of the Stelvio.
